Reviews & Scores
Shows the consistency of this superb terroir over time – even in a modest vintage it has delivered riveting results. The bouquet opens with profuse, youthful aromas of plum and blackcurrant, with a smoky, mineral edge. There is relatively little development here, and the wine is rich and dense on the palate yet never loses the balancing freshness. Starting to open up and drink spectacularly well; it should last another 25 years at least. (CC) - DC

The 2006 La Romanée Grand Cru is actually tasted on two separate occasions, once served blind in bottle in London and then from magnum in Beaune - both were consistent. It has a beguiling, quite sumptuous and sensual bouquet with red berries laced with orange peel and crushed violets. You could really lose yourself in these labyrinthine aromatics. The palate is rounded and exerts a gentle grip, a voluminous and multi-layered La Romanée with an edgy, discrete bitter note that keeps everything on an even keel. It is a beautiful La Romanée that is difficult to resist in its youth. Tasted at La Paulée in Beaune. (NM) - VM
